A weekend all sewn up

Phew, I finally finished some items to sell at the charity craft fair we’re organising. I need to make a lot more to help fill the stall but at least it’s a start.

I ran out of toy stuffing after filling my doll’s head, but luckily my Nan had a bag so I was able to get her finished. She ended up looking a bit bossy!

Handmade Christmas baubles

Before Christmas is well and truly over I thought I’d post images of some homemade baubles I made for our tree this year. Me and my partner Phil bought and moved into our house this year so it was our first Christmas together and we had to start from scratch with the decorations. I was originally planning to make all the tree decorations myself but in the end I didn’t get enough time and had to add in some bought baubles to fill out the tree. However I did manage to make a decent selection – images below!

I painted two ceramic baubles at All Fired Arts in Kings Heath.

I also made a selection of sewn felt baubles. The idea for these came from Mollie Makes magazine, although I customised them slightly. I’m a big fan of Mollie Makes, Phil got me a subscription for Christmas which made me very happy:) It also meant I got one of my presents early as the first issue of my subscription arrived mid-December!

And finally, I attached ribbon to the back of a number of small felt toys I’d previously made, including this green elephant.

Baby octopus amigurumi crochet

Unfortunately, I never find the time to do enough crochet or knitting to get very good at either craft. However, every now and again I get the wool and my crochet hook out from under the bed and create something. Here is a little octopus I made last year, who now sits on my desk at work.

He’s from the book Amigurumi World which features some extremely cute crocheted creatures. One of these days I might get around to making a few more of them myself…

Felt Sanrio Usahana bunny plush

Homemade plush Sanrio Usahana bunny by EnglishGirlAbroad

Here’s another felt plush toy created using a pattern from a Japanese pattern book. This is the Sanrio character Usahana. I couldn’t decide what to do with her once I’d made her so I added some ribbon and made her into a Christmas tree decoration!

Felt Doraemon plush

I adore Doraemon so I often end up sewing/drawing/painting him. This is a small plush Doraemon I created as a gift for my partner (also a Doraemon fan). I created him using a pattern from a Japanese Doraemon pattern book. Expect more Doraemon related posts in future!
